The night train between the city where I work and the town where my parents live takes four hours and crosses one border. Somewhere in the middle, the radio stations of one country dissolve into the radio stations of the other, and for about twenty minutes the little pocket radio my father gave me plays both at once, braided with static.
I started recording that twenty-minute seam. On some nights a pop song in my first language surfaces through a news bulletin in my second; on other nights it is only weather, twice, disagreeing with itself. The recording attached here is a short composed sketch from those journeys. I no longer think of the static as interference. It is the sound of the only place where both halves of my life are audible at the same time.
